Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his government would consider any proposal to send troops to Ukraine as part of a multinational peacekeeping force. The head of government said this at a press conference in Sydney on March 4, writes radiosvoboda.org.

“Potential peacekeeping is being discussed now, and from my government’s perspective, we are open to considering any proposals… We want to see peace in Ukraine, but we want to make sure that Russia’s illegal, immoral actions are not rewarded, and that Vladimir Putin and his imperialist agendas are not rewarded or encouraged,” he said.

Albanese stressed that Australia was not asked to provide troops.

"If a request comes in, we will consider it," he added.

Responding to a question about the termination of US military aid, Anthony Albanese confirmed support for Ukraine.

"We support President Zelensky and the courageous struggle of the people of Ukraine to defend their natural sovereignty," Albanese said.

Albanese noted that Ukraine is fighting for the international rule of law, and that “Australia stands ready to assist.” He said Australia has already committed $1,5 billion, of which $1,3 billion is direct military assistance.

Last week, French Finance Minister Eric Lombard said that Britain, Germany, France and other European countries were ready to send troops to Ukraine to secure a possible ceasefire, and he expressed hope that the United States would provide support for European troops.

Also on February 27, it became known that Turkey, which has the second largest army in NATO after the United States, is open to providing troops for peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.

Trump himself and representatives of his administration have repeatedly stated that Europe should take responsibility for security guarantees for Ukraine.
