The newspaper noted that the new aid package was announced by Australia's Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marles on the last day of the NATO summit in Washington. It will include guided missiles, anti-aircraft missiles, anti-tank weapons, ammunition and a batch of shoes. In addition, a "small number" of Australian personnel — 700 people — will join NATO's Ukraine command.

"This is not the last package we are announcing. We will continue to support Ukraine as long as it takes for Ukraine to resolve this conflict on its own terms," Marles said.

The article emphasized that the total amount of support from Australia is $1,3 billion, including $1,1 billion for the Ukrainian military.

ABC News also added that the NATO summit was mostly focused on increasing support for Ukraine. It is also known that Australia and other partners from the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, which are not members of the alliance, have sent their delegations to strengthen ties with NATO amid fears about Chinese aggression in the region.

Military aid to Ukraine — the latest news

As UNIAN previously wrote, NATO will provide an additional aid package to Ukraine. Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that it will include additional air defense systems and ammunition. In his opinion, now the main task of NATO is to ensure the victory of Ukraine. This is also a prerequisite for Kyiv's future accession to the bloc.

At the same time, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said that NATO countries have provided Ukraine with only about half of the promised aid.

"As for the aid we all give to Ukraine, I think it's time to be realistic, we've given about half of what we promised. And this is not enough. If we want Ukraine to win, we should help more," he emphasized.
