"Australia will present Ukraine with 14 hard-hull boats, which underlines the ongoing commitment of the Australian government to support Ukraine in its defense against the illegal invasion of the Russian Federation," the message reads.
It is noted that these naval boats of the Australian Defense Forces will provide Ukraine with high-speed and highly maneuverable maritime capabilities.
"The latest round of military support worth $14 million will strengthen Ukraine's maritime and coastal defenses, which are an important operational area for the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the Australian Ministry of Defense said.
The department added that this announcement regarding the shipment of boats builds on previous contributions to the development of Ukrainian maritime capabilities, including rigid-hull inflatable boats, as announced by the country's Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles at the beginning of the year.
The Australian Ministry draws attention to the fact that the assistance is provided as part of the ongoing commitment of the country's government to "support Ukraine in its defense against the illegal invasion of the Russian Federation."
"Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, Australia has provided more than $1,3 billion in military support and more than $1,5 billion in general support to the government of Ukraine," the Ministry of Defense said.
According to Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Richard Marles, supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression is in Australia's interests, and "it is right".
"Ukraine demonstrated its ability to disrupt the ongoing attacks of the Russian Federation from the Black Sea. We are proud to be able to contribute to this vital marine defense with this new package,” said the Australian politician.
"Australia remains firmly committed to supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. It's in Australia's interests and it's the right thing to do," the statement said.
