Australia allocates €6 million for energy support to Ukraine

Australia has contributed an additional €6 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. The funds will be allocated to key urgent needs of the Ukrainian energy sector. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the statement of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko expressed gratitude to Australian partners for supporting Ukraine and the energy sector in these difficult times.

"We continue to restore and rebuild equipment damaged by the enemy and, thanks to the help of partners, we are returning light and warmth to the homes of millions of Ukrainian families," he noted.

We will remind you that in February, the US State Department terminated the USAID initiative to restore Ukraine's energy system, in which hundreds of millions of dollars were invested.

NBC News reported at the time that 64 USAID employees previously worked in Ukraine, but after the decision of the administration of US President Donald Trump to send almost all of them on leave and return to the United States, only eight people from the Agency will remain in Ukraine.

It should be noted that USAID fell out of favor immediately after the Donald Trump administration came to power. RBC-Ukraine wrote that on January 20, 2025, on the first day of his term as US President, Donald Trump signed an executive order suspending the work of the USAID agency for 90 days.

The decision also mandated an audit of all grant (free) assistance programs provided by this agency. In particular, this decision concerned USAID's work in Ukraine.

This decision led to the fact that a number of important programs related to assistance to veterans, the construction of new border checkpoints, and more ceased to operate in Ukraine.
