The following individuals were subject to British sanctions: Georgia's Prosecutor General Giorgi Gabitashvili, Head of the Special Investigation Service Karlo Katsitadze, First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Shalva Bedoidze, and Deputy Head of the Department of Special Tasks Mirza Kezevadze.
The sanctions include a ban on entry to Britain and an asset freeze.
"The scenes of brutal violence against protesters, journalists and opposition figures in Georgia were truly shocking. For more than 100 days, the Georgian authorities have failed to bring those responsible to justice, which contradicts the Georgian Dream's claims to provide a democratic future for its citizens," said British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy.
He said these sanctions demonstrate that Britain “will not accept such a blatant lack of accountability from those responsible” and “will continue to consider all available options until Georgia changes its current trajectory.”
On April 2, the United Kingdom imposed sanctions against Georgian judges Levan Murusidze and Mikhail Chinchaladze.
The reason for imposing sanctions against Chinchaladze and Murusidze is corruption and court decisions made and adopted in favor of the country's ruling Georgian Dream party, as well as questionable appointments of judges.
The British government suspects judges of involvement in corruption schemes, as well as politicized management of the judicial system.
Recall, in December, Britain and the United States announced sanctions against the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia and other representatives of law enforcement agencies.
