The Czech Republic allocated financial aid to Ukraine through the NATO fund

The Czech Republic will donate up to 2,5 million euros (about 60 million crowns) to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's trust fund for non-military aid to Ukraine. About this reported the RBC-Ukraine with reference to České noviny.

It is noted that this decision was approved by the government. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, this proposal reflects, in the current foreign policy context, the need to project the growing complexity of the situation in the field of international security into intensifying efforts to maintain support for Ukraine.

What is known about the fund

The trust fund has been operating since 2016 and is an instrument of non-military aid to Ukraine. This applies, for example, to fuel, medical supplies, food, winter clothing and defense systems against unmanned aerial vehicles.

Weapons and other military equipment are provided individually by states, while the European Instrument of Peace is used for this purpose.

At the NATO summit in Vilnius in July, according to the Ministry, the continuation of this support was confirmed, in addition, the trust fund should be transformed into a multi-year plan focused on reforms of the security and defense sector and on the transition of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to the possibility of full cooperation with NATO.

Who else helps Ukraine through this fund

Most NATO members contribute to the fund, with the exception of the United States, France and Italy, as well as alliance partners such as Japan.

As a result of the debate within NATO about the share of individual states, the share of national costs in the total funding of NATO was determined as a fair measure. In the case of the Czech Republic, it is approximately one percent.

Currently, the total annual volume of contributions to the fund is expected to be EUR 500 million. Since the start of Russia's war against Ukraine last year, the Czech Republic has contributed to the fund:

• 1,28 million euros from the budget of the Ministry of Defense;
• 1 million euros and 6 million crowns (247 thousand euros) from the budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
• $1,09 million that was originally allocated from the already canceled alliance fund for the Afghan National Army.

Help from the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is one of the main allies of Ukraine, which supported our country at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian invaders. During the war, Prague provided us with not only humanitarian, but also military aid.

For example, in mid-October, the Czech Republic announced that together with Denmark, in the coming months, they will supply Ukraine with BMPs, battle tanks, heavy weapons, and other equipment both of new production and from the warehouses of Czech private companies at the expense of the Danish government.

Today it was reported that Ukrainian soldiers will be able to continue training in the Czech Republic next year. The Chamber of Deputies approved the corresponding proposal of the government.
