Ukrainian Army drones destroyed the Chongar bridge: satellite evidence of a strike on Russian logistics

10.06.2026 0 By Chilli.Pepper

On the night of June 7, 2026, Ukrainian drones carried out pinpoint strikes on the central part of the Chongarsky Bridge, which connects the occupied Kherson region with Crimea. Satellite images from Planet Labs, released by the Schemes project, clearly show dark spots of destruction and a pontoon crossing that the Russians have deployed nearby.

This incident once again highlights the vulnerability of the Russian forces' logistical arteries in the south. The bridge, which served as a key supply route for the Russian group, suffered damage that forced the occupiers to block traffic as early as June 7. Analysts note that such strikes not only disrupt the supply of ammunition and equipment, but also force the enemy to spend resources on alternative crossings.

Satellite evidence and technical details of the damage

High-resolution images taken on June 8 show several areas of darkening in the central part of the bridge deck. Earth-sensing experts estimate that the damage affected the supporting structures and the road surface. A pontoon crossing about 300 meters long is clearly visible next to the bridge, which the Russians deployed back in June 2023 and have since then periodically camouflaged under the bridge structures.

According to the open source community, the pontoon elements belong to the engineering units of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Their appearance three years before the current strikes indicates systematic preparation for possible attacks on stationary objects. In 2024–2025, the crossing was repeatedly recorded in a disassembled state, but in May 2026 it was reassembled and camouflaged.

The role of Ukrainian units and the latest technologies

The 475th separate assault regiment of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, together with the pilots of the 1st separate assault regiment named after Dmytro Kotsiubayl, used drones manufactured by Fire Point and Behemoth-type devices. These systems are capable of carrying warheads weighing up to 50 kilograms and covering distances of more than 300 kilometers. The strike on the night of June 7 was the result of long-term monitoring of the enemy's logistical flows.

The bridge was attacked again on June 9. Although fresh satellite images had not yet been released at the time of publication, military sources confirm that the damage has significantly complicated the movement of heavy equipment. Russian Telegram channels acknowledged the temporary closure of the crossing and the transfer of cargo via alternative routes, including the Kerch Bridge and ferry crossings in the Kerch area.

Logistical consequences for the Russian group

The Chongar Bridge provided up to 40% of land supplies for Russian troops in the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions. After the damage, the average daily cargo volume dropped from 1200 to less than 400 tons. This forced the command to transfer additional engineering units and waste scarce pontoon fleets.

Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War note that such strikes on logistics create a chain reaction effect: delays in the delivery of ammunition lead to a decrease in the intensity of artillery fire, and a lack of fuel limits the maneuvers of armored vehicles. In May 2026, Ukrainian forces had already struck 36 enemy logistics facilities, including command posts and fuel depots.

Historical context and preparation of the Russians

Back in the summer of 2023, after the first successful strikes on the Crimean Bridge, the Russian military began actively building alternative crossings. The appearance of a pontoon structure near Chongar in June 2023 was part of a large-scale program to protect logistics hubs. However, hiding elements under the bridge did not save from pinpoint strikes by kamikaze drones.

In 2025, the occupiers carried out repair work on the bridge, reinforcing the supports with metal structures. However, satellite images show that these measures were insufficient against modern Ukrainian unmanned systems.

International reaction and strategic importance

The attacks on the Chongar Bridge have attracted the attention of Western media. The New York Times and Reuters have published articles citing satellite data, highlighting the effectiveness of Ukraine's strategy to exhaust the enemy's logistics. European analysts believe that systematic attacks on transport arteries could significantly affect the ability of the Russian Federation to hold positions in southern Ukraine.

Ukraine continues to improve the tactics of using long-range drones. Developments by Fire Point and other domestic manufacturers allow strikes to be carried out to a depth of up to 500 kilometers without the involvement of manned aircraft, which reduces risks to personnel.

Future scenarios and challenges

Despite the damage, the Russians are continuing their efforts to restore traffic. According to operational data, they plan to deploy additional pontoon crossings and strengthen air defenses in the area of the bridge. At the same time, Ukrainian forces continue to monitor and search for new targets in the enemy's logistical chain.

Experts predict that attacks on transport facilities in the occupied territories will only intensify in the coming months. This is due both to the improvement of Ukrainian technologies and the need to limit the Russian Federation's ability to regroup troops before possible offensive operations.
