Finland will still ban the entry of cars with Russian registration

Finland, following the Baltic countries, plans to ban the entry of passenger cars with Russian registration. This became known to Yle TV and radio company, reported the "European truth".

Finland wants to follow the EU's overall tougher line. Minister of Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen should announce this on Friday.

The decision is based on the policy of the European Commission, recommendations for the implementation of which were issued a week ago. By banning the entry of cars registered in Russia, the European Commission aims to prevent evasion of sanctions.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna explained at a briefing on Wednesday that the restrictions have a greater effect when they are applied together, which increases the price Russia is paying for the war.

According to Yle, cars with less than ten people, registered in Russia, will no longer be able to cross the border. There are some exceptions to this rule. It is not known when exactly the ban will come into force.

Finland has tightened its visa policy due to Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine. Traffic on the eastern border has eased, but it still remains relatively busy.

On September 13, it was reported that cars with Russian license plates can still enter Finland, and reports of confiscation of cars are untrue.

On September 8, the European Commission published an explanation regarding long-established restrictions on the import and export of goods to or from Russia. It was specified that cars and some goods fall under the ban, regardless of whether they are personal belongings of travelers.
