Kyiv team 3D Metal Tech creates titanium implants on a 3D printer for the military and civilians

The Kyiv-based company 3D Metal Tech designs and prints titanium implants for patients with severe bone injuries — often soldiers who have been wounded on the front lines. Using 3D printing and CT scans, the team creates fully personalized solutions tailored to each specific case, writes dev.ua.

"The level of defects is very complex - sometimes it is impossible to apply standard solutions. Therefore, we design individual implants based on CT scans," the company's bioengineer Artem Tsurkan told dev.ua.
Implants are created for various purposes - these include hip joint cups, skull plates, and dental implants.

Working with patients directly or through clinics and doctors. First comes the design, approval with the doctor, printing a plastic model for verification, and only after that - printing in titanium.

The company has a 3D printer that can print fairly large titanium parts, one of the few available in Ukraine. Its cost is about $750. Such printers allow you to create large titanium parts up to 000×30 cm in size.

Since the start of full-scale war, the team has manufactured over 2000 custom implants, mostly for the military.

For them, this service is free — the costs are covered by charitable funds. For civilians, the cost of, for example, a cranioplasty is about 1000–2000 euros.

3D Metal Tech already employs about 25 people, including bioengineers responsible for developing implants. The team is actively growing and is currently recruiting new specialists.
