Lithuania and Poland will create a logistics center for HIMARS ammunition
26.04.2024The President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, offered Poland to cooperate more closely on the issue of expanding the defense potential by creating a regional logistics center for HIMARS ammunition and jointly participating in defense procurement. About this reported the RBC-Ukraine with reference to LNK.

"We talked about possible cooperation in the defense industry. We know that our southern neighbor, Poland, is certainly an example of how to respond to the geopolitical risks around us. And your example of financing defense with 4% of the gross domestic product certainly inspires us all," he stated.
According to Nauseda, Lithuania is currently discussing the issue of increasing funding for national defense.
"We talked, in particular, about the HIMARS systems, as both Lithuania and Poland plan to acquire these systems. They have already purchased them, but intend to purchase more in the future. Especially considering the fact that there are plans for the production of ammunition in Poland, we would like to cooperate. And my proposal was precisely in this direction — the creation of a regional logistics center," the president said.
In addition, Lithuania and Poland are discussing joint purchases of missiles.
"We could take part in joint purchases (missiles, — ed.). This would be a very concrete example of how our strong ties in the field of military cooperation can be taken to new frontiers," Nauseda said.
Defense procurement of Poland
In recent months, Poland has been actively purchasing weapons to strengthen its defense amid geopolitical tensions in the region. Among the main purchases: Abrams tanks in the United States, HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems in the United States, Patriot air defense systems, Turkish-made drones, South Korean K2 tanks.
As The Telegraph reports, back in May, Poland set itself the goal of creating the largest land army in Europe.
