Macron invites the "Coalition of the Determined" to the parade on July 14

In the heart of Paris, where calls for freedom once rang out, the voice of unity will once again be heard on July 14, 2026. French President Emmanuel Macron invited representatives of the “Coalition of the Determined” to witness the traditional military parade on the Champs-Élysées, turning the holiday into a clear signal of support for Ukraine at a time when transatlantic ties are under serious strain.

The official invitation, obtained by Reuters, makes it clear that France is opening its doors to countries that are part of a coalition created to guarantee Ukraine's security after a possible peace settlement. This year's parade will be held under the slogan "European Strategic Awakening," and this is not just rhetoric - there is real political will behind it.

"Coalition of the Determined": from French command to British chairmanship

Since November 2025, the coalition, which includes about 25 countries, has been under French command. It is France that has taken over the coordination of efforts to prepare a multinational force that could be deployed in Ukraine after a peace agreement with Russia is reached. In July 2026, the presidency is due to pass to the United Kingdom, and it is at the Paris parade that the symbolic handover of the baton is expected.

According to sources close to the French Foreign Ministry, consultations are already underway on the format of British representatives' participation in planning joint exercises and logistical support. Britain, which traditionally supports a tougher line towards Russia, plans to emphasize the maritime component and intelligence capabilities.

More than thirty states confirmed security guarantees

Following a meeting on February 24, 2026, more than 30 coalition member countries formally confirmed their readiness to provide security guarantees to Ukraine, with the support of the United States. The decision was a response to rising tensions around Iran and concerns that Washington might reconsider its commitments in Europe.

Countries that have expressed the greatest interest in participating in the parade include Poland, Germany, the Baltic states and the Scandinavian states. It is expected that the defense ministers and chiefs of general staff of these countries will appear on the rostrum for the guests of honor.

The parade as a diplomatic tool

The military parade on the Champs-Élysées traditionally demonstrates the strength and unity of the French army. This year, it takes on an additional dimension: Macron plans to use the stage to emphasize European strategic autonomy. In a speech being prepared by the Élysée Palace, the president intends to emphasize that Europe can no longer rely solely on American guarantees.

Analysts from the Paris Institute of International Relations note that the coalition invitation is not only a gesture of solidarity with Ukraine, but also an attempt to consolidate France as a leader in European defense policy. This seems especially relevant against the backdrop of a possible reduction in the American presence in Europe due to the conflict in Iran.

What does "European Strategic Awakening" mean?

The slogan of the 2026 parade reflects a new reality: European countries are forced to take charge of their own security. French diplomats explain that the “awakening” involves increasing defense spending, joint arms purchases and the creation of rapid crisis response mechanisms.

France and Germany are already discussing expanding the Franco-German brigade to a format that would allow units from other coalition countries to be included. It is planned that by 2028 such a multinational brigade will be able to conduct joint exercises on the territory of Ukraine within the framework of security guarantees.

Reaction of Ukraine and the international community

In Kyiv, the invitation was seen as an important diplomatic signal. President Volodymyr Zelensky has already expressed gratitude to Macron for his consistent support. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry confirmed that representatives of Ukraine will also attend the parade as guests of honor.

At the same time, Moscow reacted to the invitation with restraint, calling it a “provocation.” Russian state media claim that the coalition’s participation in the French parade only complicates peace talks.

Practical implications for Ukraine

The participation of coalition countries in the July 14 parade could accelerate the agreement on specific mechanisms for security guarantees. According to sources in the French General Staff, the first joint staff exercises with the Ukrainian military are planned to be held by the end of 2026.

There is also discussion of the possibility of deploying a limited contingent of instructors and logistics units to Ukraine immediately after the signing of a peace agreement. France insists that such a force should have a mandate from the UN or OSCE, while Britain favors a more flexible format.

The economic dimension is no less important. The coalition countries are considering the possibility of creating a joint fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine, to which France has already pledged to contribute 2,5 billion euros over three years.
