Norway bans entry for tourists from the Russian Federation

The Norwegian government is further tightening the entry conditions for citizens of the Russian Federation, if the purpose of the trip is tourism. About it, how write "European truth", says the message of the Norwegian government.

The changes come into effect on May 29.

The Norwegian government has tightened visa practices for Russians in the spring of 2022, after which tourist visas for Russians are generally not issued. Currently, the entry conditions are even more stringent.

"The decision to tighten entry rules is in line with Norway's commitment to stand with allies and partners in opposing Russia's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine," said Minister of Justice and Emergencies Emilia Enger Mel.

The change means that the police can deny entry to Russian citizens subject to the updated rules.

Citizens of Russia, whose purpose is tourism and other non-essential trips, will be refused entry when crossing the external border. The strengthening applies both to those who have visas issued by Norway before the tightening of visa practices in the spring of 2022, and to those who have visas issued by other Schengen countries.

Exceptions will be granted in certain cases, for example, for visiting close relatives (parents, spouses, cohabitants and children) who live in Norway, as well as for Russian citizens who work or study in Norway or other Schengen countries.

During the fall of 2022, several Russians were detained in Norway for unauthorized drone filming.
