Poland considers Macron's proposal to deploy nuclear weapons

Poland is in "serious talks" with France over President Emmanuel Macron's proposal to use his country's nuclear capabilities to defend European allies, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, according to the Associated Press. RBC-Ukraine with reference to Bloomberg.

Tusk noted that given the threats from Russia, Europe could find itself on the brink of war within the next few years.

According to him, there is “no doubt” that Russia is currently massively rearming and mobilizing, as the Kremlin is likely preparing for a full-scale military confrontation not only with Ukraine, but also “with someone much bigger.”

Therefore, Poland is negotiating with France regarding possible access to nuclear weapons.

"We must realize that Poland must have the most modern capabilities related to nuclear weapons and modern unconventional weapons. That is why we are facing a very serious race, and this is a race for security, not an arms race," the Polish Prime Minister emphasized.

Macron's proposal

As a reminder, French President Emmanuel Macron has decided to start a discussion on the use of French nuclear weapons to defend the entire European Union.

"Our nuclear deterrent protects us. They are French. Since 1964, they have always played a role in maintaining peace and security in Europe. I have also decided to start strategic discussions on our defense of the entire continent with our nuclear weapons. The decision will depend on the heads and commanders-in-chief of European countries," he noted.
