Human rights defenders sent a complaint against Russian propagandists to the International Criminal Court

On June 6, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), the Center for Civil Liberties and the Kharkiv Human Rights Group presented a submission to the International Criminal Court regarding the commission of hate crimes by Russians against Ukrainians. reported the correspondent of Radio Svoboda.

"We see in this not just our opinion, but a clear machine of conviction in certain theses. We chose those people who are the most massive and influential, they most often repeated the theses we talked about," said Volodymyr Yavorskyi, program director of the Center for Civil Liberties, during the briefing.

The authors of the submission analyzed 526 hours of airtime and selected more than 300 statements that meet the criteria of hate speech.

"I believe that this will be the basis for the investigation, it will be the basis for arrests and investigations," added Anna Ovdienko, a lawyer of the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group (KPG).

The submission talks about the responsibility of five leading Russian propagandists for inciting enmity against Ukrainians: Volodymyr Solovyov, Margarita Simonyan, Dmytro Kiselyov, Dmytro Medvedev and Serhii Mardan. It is also about the responsibility of the first deputy head of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation Oleksiy Gromov.

Ukrainian law enforcement agencies also reported on investigations into Russian propagandists. In particular, in March 2022, the SBU reported that it was investigating criminal proceedings against the presenter of the "Russia-1" channel Olga Skabeeva and the director of the state agency "Russia Today" Dmytro Kiselyov.

In April 2024, the SBU informed the editor-in-chief of the Russian RT TV channel Margarita Simonyan about the suspicion of several articles.
