"As for Russia, next week I will impose sanctions on its banking and energy sectors, calling on them to come to the negotiating table. If they do not agree to a ceasefire and peace talks with the administration, we must impose sanctions on them," he stressed.
According to him, while the war is ongoing in Ukraine, it is worth providing it with all the data "in terms of intelligence and weapons for self-defense."
Earlier, the US president, in a post on the social network Truth Social, allowed the introduction of sanctions and tariffs against Russia if there is no “ceasefire.” Trump called on Russia and Ukraine to sit down at the negotiating table “right now, before it’s too late.” This statement came against the backdrop of another massive Russian attack on Ukraine, in particular on energy and gas infrastructure.
On the eve of the meeting, US Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg said that the United States should “face reality about the level of readiness of both sides” in the Russian-Ukrainian war for negotiations and then “talk about applying more pressure on one side or the other.” He also said that Russia is “very open and receptive.”
The Kremlin said on March 3 that Russia was continuing its dialogue with Washington and at the same time “continuing a special military operation to achieve all the goals that were set from the very beginning.” Russia had previously called the goal of the “special operation” the “demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously stressed that Ukraine will not enter into peace talks with Russia until it has security guarantees against a new invasion.
