The United States of America has suspended its strategic partnership with Georgia. In response to the refusal of the authorities from negotiations on joining the European Union and the violent dispersal of demonstrators. It is reported RBC-Ukraine with reference to the US State Department.

The statement states that the decision of the ruling party "Georgian Dream" to suspend the EU accession process contradicts the promise to the Georgian people. Thus, the authorities made the country more vulnerable to the Kremlin.

In addition, the United States condemns the violent dispersal of demonstrators in Tbilisi and calls on all parties to ensure the peaceful nature of the protests. The actions of the "Georgian Dream" violated the basic principles of the strategic partnership with the United States, based on common values ​​and commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and so on.

"As a result, the United States suspended the operation of this mechanism," the State Department said.

Refusal of Georgia from negotiations on joining the EU
This week, Georgian Prime Minister Iraklii Kobakhidze announced his refusal to start negotiations until 2028. "Also, until the end of 2028, we will refuse any budget grants from the European Union," he said.

After that, protests in Georgia began with new force. The day before, security forces dispersed the rally in Tbilisi for seven hours, it was reported about injured demonstrators. A number of ambassadors and other officials expressed disagreement with the new course and resigned.

It will be recalled that today the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, stated that she has no intention of relinquishing her mandate. Presidential elections are scheduled for mid-December, which will be held in parliament for the first time. She considers the current convocation illegitimate, the opposition does not recognize the results of the parliamentary elections and boycotts its work.
