The United States has imposed sanctions against five Turkish companies and a Turkish citizen, accusing them of helping Russia evade sanctions and supporting Moscow in its war against Ukraine, writes radiosvoboda.org.

According to Reuters, the restrictions target shipping and trading companies accused of helping to repair sanctioned vessels linked to Russia's defense ministry and facilitating the transfer of "dual-use goods". The restrictions are part of a larger package of sanctions announced by Washington on September 14.

The U.S. Treasury Department said in a statement that it had imposed sanctions on Margiana Insaat Dis Ticaret and Demirci Bilisim Ticaret Sanayi, noting that these Turkish companies were relied upon by Russia to import "much-needed dual-purpose goods to wage an unprovoked war against Ukraine."

It is noted that the first company has made hundreds of deliveries to Russian organizations that have come under sanctions and that are part of the supply chain for the production of military drones, and the second has sent sensors and measuring instruments to Russia.

The US State Department has imposed sanctions against Denkar Ship Construction for providing ship repair services to a company linked to the Russian Defense Ministry. Restrictions have also been introduced against the Turkish agency ID Ship Agency and its owner Ilker Dogruyol, as well as against the company CTL Limited, which, according to the State Department, was an intermediary that delivers electronic components of American and European origin to companies in Russia.

The sanctions come at a sensitive time for US-Turkey relations, as Washington expects Ankara to ratify Sweden's NATO membership

Several high-ranking US officials have visited Turkey since Russia's invasion of Ukraine as part of a pressure campaign to prevent Turkish companies from helping Russia circumvent US restrictions.

"Over the past 18 months, we have been sharing our concerns with the Turkish government and the private sector and informing them of the significant risks of doing business with those we have sanctioned who are associated with war with Russia," a senior U.S. Treasury official said in a statement. anonymity
