Trump explained Iran threats: "Bombs fly for free"

The words that divided the Middle East: is Trump really ready to strike?

Imagine a moment of silence in a room filled with a voice that challenges entire nations. Donald Trump, the US presidential candidate, recently published a series of posts on the Truth Social network, in which he directly threatened Iran with “bombing it to the Stone Age.” These words are not just an emotional outburst, but a wake-up call for Tehran, Washington and the entire world. Why did Trump choose this rhetoric? Is there a real plan of action behind it? We analyze the statement in its essence, adding fresh details from the international arena that make this story even more poignant.

Context of the statement: escalation against the backdrop of Israel's war with Hezbollah

Trump's statement came on October 27, 2024, immediately after an Israeli airstrike on Iran. Tehran responded with missile strikes, but without significant casualties. Trump, commenting on Truth Social, wrote: "Iran must immediately agree to peace or the US will drop bombs on them like the world has never seen before. We will bomb you into the Stone Age!"1 These words are not an isolated incident. They fit into a broader chain of events where Iran supports Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen, escalating the conflict in the Middle East.

According to the Pentagon, Iran has transferred more than 10 missiles and drones to Hezbollah since the beginning of 2024. Israel responded by destroying key warehouses in Lebanon and on October 26 striking 20 sites in Iran, including ballistic missile production centers.2 Trump is likely reacting to this by recalling his first term, when he ordered the killing of General Qassem Soleimani in 2020. Iran then responded with missiles at US bases in Iraq, but avoided a full-scale war.

Experts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) note that Trump's rhetoric is aimed at the electorate: 68% of Americans support a hard line against Iran, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll from October 28.3 But behind the scenes, real preparations are underway. US intelligence is recording the transfer of Iranian forces to Syria, where the Assad regime is hanging by a thread.

Why does Trump swear? The psychology of threats as weapons

Trump explained his style in an interview with Fox News on October 29: "I swear because it works. Iran knows I'm not kidding. Biden is weak, and I'm the one who will strike first and hit hardest."4 These are not just words. During his first term, Trump implemented “maximum pressure” — sanctions that reduced Iranian oil exports from 2,5 million barrels per day to 300.5

Analysis of open source data shows that after Trump's statement, the price of Brent oil increased by 3%, to $74 per barrel, due to fears of a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.6 Iran controls 20% of the world's oil reserves in the region. If Trump returns to the White House in January 2025, his team is promising new sanctions against Iran's "shadow fleet" of tankers - 300 vessels that evade the embargo.

Compare that to Biden: the administration allowed Iran to sell $1,5 billion worth of oil to China every month. Trump calls it “treason.” His advisers, like Douglas McGregor, predict: “Iran will lose 80% of its revenue in a month.”7

Tehran's reaction: from bluff to real threats

Iran is not silent. Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei responded: "American threats are empty. We are ready to fight back."8 On October 30, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) conducted a training exercise in which it fired 200 ballistic missiles. Open-source analysts like Oryx have spotted new launchers near Khorramabad.

But the numbers are frightening: Iran has an arsenal of 3000 medium-range missiles that can reach Israel in 12 minutes. The US has deployed the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Persian Gulf with 5000 sailors and 75 F-35 aircraft.9 If Trump presses the "button," Iran could block Hormuz — 21 million barrels of oil per day at risk.

Ukrainian context: Kyiv is watching closely. Iran is supplying Russia with Shahed drones, which are used to attack our cities. According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, as of October 2023, there have been over 4000 units. Trump, criticizing Biden, hints: "We will stop this flow."10

Israel in the game: Trump's ally or pawn?

Netanyahu thanked Trump in a phone call on October 28: "Your support is the key to victory."11 Israel destroyed 50% of Iran's air defense systems in an October 26 strike. The S-300 radars are in ruins. Tehran is now vulnerable.

Mossad, according to The New York Times, is planning new operations against Iran's nuclear program. Stocks of enriched uranium — 182 kg at 60%, enough for 4 bombs.12 Trump withdrew from the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) nuclear deal in 2018, and Iran resumed enrichment. Today, it is on the verge of a breakthrough.

Escalation touches Lebanon: Hezbollah loses 500 fighters and 40 people evacuated. Nasrallah is dead. Iran transfers elite Quds Brigades.13

World reaction: from Europe to Asia

Europe is in panic. Macron called for "restraint" over fears of a surge in gas prices.14 China, the main buyer of Iranian oil (1,1 million barrels per day), is silent, but Beijing has warned: “War is not an option.” Russia, an ally of Tehran, promises the S-400, but its army in Ukraine will not withstand a new front.15

In Ukraine, the Foreign Ministry stated: "We support efforts against terrorism."16 Because Iran is a supplier of drones to Moscow. Globally: Saudi Arabia made peace with Iran through China's mediation, but after the Houthi attacks on the Red Sea, it is reconsidering its position.

The future: scenarios from diplomacy to apocalypse

Scenario 1: Negotiations. Trump may offer a “new JCPOA” without a nuclear program. Iran is hesitant — sanctions are choking the economy, inflation is 40%.17

Scenario 2: Strike. B-2 Spirits from Guam capable of carrying 16 bombs to bunkers. Iran responds with Houthis — 50% of world shipping at risk.

Scenario 3: War. RAND Corporation models: 100 casualties, oil at $150, recession in the US.18

Trump plays on nerves, but his style is chess. Will he be able to avoid checkmate? The world held its breath.
