The field office of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has started work in Kyiv. It will become the largest representation of the ICC outside The Hague, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine announced on Thursday, September 14.

"This is a new chapter of our cooperation. The work of the office will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of responding to the crimes that Russia continues to commit against Ukraine and Ukrainians every day," said Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin.

For his part, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, noted that the court's partnership with Ukraine is "the dawn of a new time" in which "we must show, and are showing, endurance and perseverance, so that our words are not empty words." "They are felt by the victims both in Ukraine, where I have the honor to be now, and all over the world," he said.

Kostin thanked Khan for the tremendous work the ICC is doing to bring perpetrators of international crimes to justice. Among the results of such work, he named, in particular, warrants for the arrest of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the Commissioner for Children's Rights in the Russian Federation, Maria Lvova-Belova.

Kostin also noted the work of the ISS team in the investigation of a number of serious crimes directly at the places where they were committed on the territory of Ukraine. In particular, he thanked the ISS team for its quick response to the undermining of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station dam.

"We are completely open and transparent. We provide all necessary materials, access to crime scenes, evidence and testimonies. We are doing everything in our power so that the experts of the International Criminal Court have the opportunity to see the consequences of the aggressor's crimes with their own eyes and make their own unbiased conclusions," said the Prosecutor General.

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, more than 104 war crimes have already been registered in Ukraine, and their number is increasing daily.
