During an online speech at the EU Council of Foreign Ministers, which is taking place in Luxembourg, Szybiga emphasized the importance of Europe's decisive steps to strengthen Ukrainian and its own capabilities.
He recalled the recent tragic shelling of Kryvyi Rih and the city of Sumy, during which a large number of Ukrainians died.
"I urge your governments and municipalities to consider providing additional support for Sumy and Kryvyi Rih, for the people in these cities. All of Ukraine will be grateful to you for this," Sybiga said.
The minister called for increased military assistance to Ukraine, primarily regarding anti-aircraft capabilities: providing additional complexes, launchers, missiles, and spare parts.
According to him, work has begun in Ukraine to develop its own strategic-level air defense system. At the same time, European countries that express a desire to invest in this program will be able to accelerate its implementation.
The Foreign Minister also emphasized other priority military needs:
- ammunition;
- long-range missiles;
- armored vehicles;
- engineering equipment;
- combat aircraft;
- drones;
- additional investments in the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex.
"Putin will move further into Europe and closer to your homes if he is not stopped in Ukraine. That is the reality. And we do not want your countries to ever see cluster ballistic missile strikes on residential neighborhoods or playgrounds. That is why it is necessary to act now to achieve peace, to strengthen Ukraine and increase pressure on Moscow," the minister said.
Large-scale strikes on Kryvyi Rih and Sumy
Recently, the Russian Federation has begun to launch increasingly deadly attacks on Ukrainian cities.
On Friday, April 4, the Russians fired a cluster bomb near a playground in the city of Kryvyi Rih. At that time, 19 people, including nine children, were killed in the Russian terror.
Yesterday, the Russians struck the city center of Sumy twice with ballistic missiles, killing at least 34 people.
