Ukrainian drones destroyed Russian training ground in Zaporizhia and thwarted offensive on Hulyaipole

On June 13, 2024, the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces launched a series of coordinated strikes on temporarily occupied territories. The main target was the Skhidnyi training ground in Zaporizhia region. According to the SBS press service, fighters from the 40th Separate Marine Brigade of the 36th Combined Arms Army, the 1466th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 5th Army, and the 1461st Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 36th Army were simultaneously training at the site. The strike thwarted the Russian command’s plans to strengthen the group in the Hulyaipil direction.

SBS operators recorded direct hits on several critically important objects. The Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile system, which covered the area from air threats, was destroyed. The crew of the portable anti-aircraft missile system and the ZU-23 anti-aircraft installation were also hit. The temporary deployment point of the drone unit and their control point were separately damaged. There have also been attacks on the Titan chemical plant in Crimea, where production was temporarily halted. These operations show that Ukrainian forces of unmanned systems are expanding the geography of strikes, covering both frontline areas and deep behind enemy lines.

Although exact figures for casualties are not made public, according to Ukrainian military estimates, the strike on the Vostochny training ground resulted in the deaths and injuries of several dozen servicemen. The destruction of air defenses and drone control points significantly weakened the area's cover.
