Japan urged Iran not to provide the Russian Federation with weapons for the war with Ukraine

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimas Hayashi in Tokyo during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdullahian urged Tehran not to provide Russia with weapons for its war against Ukraine. About this reported the RBC-Ukraine, referring to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

The head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry confirmed the country's position regarding Russia's full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, and also called on the representative of Iran to give a "constructive response" to the Kremlin's military aggression.

The parties agreed to continue "close communication" on issues related to the Middle East, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan reported.

In addition, the ministers exchanged views on the latest developments surrounding Iran's nuclear issue. Hayashi said Japan supports the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and is "gravely concerned" by Tehran's expansion of nuclear activities, calling for constructive measures, including full and unconditional cooperation under the Joint Statement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

In response, Abdullahian said Iran was seeking to restore the JCPOA "through negotiations," and added that Tehran was committed to continuing close contacts with Japan on the issue.

According to the Kyodo news agency, the talks took place amid Western claims that Iran is providing Russia with military aid, such as drones and ammunition, while Tokyo seeks to "use its traditional friendship with Tehran to help end the war."

It should be noted that this year Japan chairs the "Big Seven", which has maintained economic sanctions against the Russian Federation since February last year because of its war against Ukraine.

Russia's supply of weapons to Iran

The Russian Federation actively uses Iranian kamikaze drones of the Shahed type to launch strikes on the territory of Ukraine. Western countries have repeatedly stated that Moscow agreed with Tehran on the supply of drones, but they have long rejected such accusations in every possible way.

At the same time, already after providing real evidence of the Russian Federation's use of Iranian-made drones, Tehran changed its position and admitted its involvement.

According to British intelligence, Russia has switched from receiving small batches of drones from Iran by air to large batches by ships from Iran via the Caspian Sea.

Also, with the help of Tehran, the Russian Federation is building a plant for the production of UAVs on its territory.

As previously stated by analysts from the US Defense Intelligence Agency, the new plant will provide the Russian Federation with new supplies of drones, which are "by an order of magnitude more" than those it could purchase from Iran before.
